Gay marriage (and priests and nuns): a threat to humanity’s future

January 10th, 2012 § 4 comments § permalink

So Pope Benedict XVI is scared about humanity’s future…

In a new year address to diplomats from around 180 countries, he said that the education of children needed proper “settings” and that “pride of place goes to the family, based on the marriage of a man and a woman”.

A couple of years ago, I met in Peru a young man named Hagay Peleg. We spent some time together, and because he seemed nice, I kept in touch with him! And thanks to the Internet, we easily keep contact.

Rick Perry: strong, christian... and gay

When you upload a video on Youtube, you have the option of closing the comments’ section. This is rarely done, but when it happens, it’s usually because you want to control the message or are afraid of the answers the video might bring.

One thing you can’t stop though is the like/dislike buttons. So, Rick Perry, were you expecting that much Youtube hate when you uploaded your video? » Read the rest of this entry «

I’m with you – Red Hot Chili Peppers

August 29th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

I never LOVED a Red Hot Chili Peppers’ album after its first listen. So I wasn’t about to judge this one after only one round.

(album cover by Mr. Brainwash)

Five years have passed since Stadium-Arcadium RHCP’s double album release, and without amazing guitarist John Frusciante on board (who left the group, once again), fans didnt’t know what to expect. And the new stachy/emo lead singer Anthony Kiedis style wasn’t reassuring neither. Only good thing we knew about their silence? One-of-a-kind bass master Flea was taking some theorical music lessons (and that he was serious about it).

(picture of lead-singer Anthony Kiedis took in Terry Richardon‘s studio)

But is the album good? » Read the rest of this entry «

Dimitri Soudas gets some Twitter love from CBC

June 8th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

*Update below*

Dimitri Soudas, the  ”Communications Director to Prime Minister [of Canada] Stephen Harper”, uses Twitter… in a sometimes funny way:

[blackbirdpie url="https://twitter.com/PMOSoudas/statuses/78077690812436480"]

I don’t really mind what he talks about, but the thing I don’t understand is the fact that he got retweeted (direct RT, without extra comments) a couple of times, and some of them by CBC affiliates.
(thanks to Mathieu from l’@oursavecnous for the cue.)

Is there something important out there I’m missing?

Update

Actually yes, I was missing something. Well, not missing, but I didn’t link the information. Thank you Stu Mills for your fast answer.

choice

a good thing about waking in the middle of the night is discovering (very) interesting things.

Colored Pencils
(creative common picture by Dean Terry)

while reading an article from Graham Button on the “over-branding (that) kills profits and scares off consumers“, I jumped on to these two Ted talks he refers to, and they’re not only very interesting, but also paradigm-shifting.

first, Sheena Iyengar who talks about “the art of choosing”, and three assumptions she interestingly describes and gives examples of:

  1. “make your own choices”
  2. “more options = better choices”
  3. “never say no to choice”

second, Barry Schwartz, about “the paradox of choice”, where he also puts in front of our faces the fact that more choice doesn’t mean more freedom which also means more welfare. (and that you should have low expectations in life!)
